1. Is the NPC an independent Organisation?
The NPC is an independent, non-governmental and non-profit making peace initiative. It is a neutral institution that does not support, endorse or campaign for any political party or candidate.
2. Who funds the NPC?
The NPC is not funded by the government nor does it solicit for funds from any government institution. To maintain its neutrality and preserve its integrity, the NPC does not accept funds from any agency that depends on government funding support, or politically exposed individuals. It is primarily funded by external agencies, and also leverages on local funding.
3. What criteria is used in selecting members of the NPC?
In convening the National Peace Committee care was taken to identify respected and credible Nigerians across the country without any known partisan political interests or affiliations and perhaps most importantly men and women of unquestionable integrity. The selection process was also deliberate in ensuring balance of religious, ethnic, and gender considerations.
4. What is the NPC Management and Coordination Mechanism?
To deliver on its mandate, the Peace Committee operates under the following four (4) divisions: Top Management (Chairman, Convener and Members); Secretariat (Head of the NPC Secretariat and Administrative Staff); Research and Policy; Funding and Financial Administration. The Chairman is Responsible for the overall functioning of the NPC; he guides, gives directions on activities, calls for meeting, and oversees the decision-making process of the NPC. He is assisted by the Vice Chair who acts in his absence. The convener facilitates all meetings and interactions of the NPC while members support the Chairman and the Convener to implement the activities of the NPC such as: Regional outreaches to specific conflict zones and trouble spots to directly engage the conflict parties with the view of resolving the issues.
