About Us

The National Peace Committee (NPC) is a non-governmental initiative conceptualized in 2014 in response to emerging threats occasioned by the 2015 general elections. It is an initiative made up of eminent elder statesmen who undertake efforts to support free, fair and credible elections as well as intervene in critical issues of national concern through high-level mediated and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. At inception, the NPC had an urgent, broad based mandate to make modest contributions towards a smooth and peaceful conduct of the 2015 elections, devoid of any breakdown of law and order before, during and after the electioneering process.

Testimonials

In close collaboration with the National Peace Committee, ECOWAS and African Union, the UN has assured Nigerian authorities its full support in organizing general elections that are peaceful, credible, inclusive and transparent. In this regard, I would like to make a fervent appeal for all stakeholders to support the efforts of INEC and other relevant institutions to ensure the elections in these states meet the aspirations of all residents of this great state. It is important for us to collectively promote social cohesion and ensure that disagreements between communities are not instrumentalized during the elections to foment violence, which in most instances leads to significant loss of lives and property.

I want to warmly thank General Abdulsalami Abubakar and the National Peace Committee for their kind invitation to the Kofi Annan Foundation to be here for this historic occasion. My thanks go as well to Switzerland, a close partner of the Foundation, in our efforts to promote electoral integrity around the world. But above all, I want to congratulate the candidates and parties on their reaffirmation of the peace accord. Your commitment puts country before party.
